Allanridge, the northern most town in the Goldfields was established in 1947 after the discovery of gold in the North West and was only proclaimed in 1956. The town was named in honour of the late Allan Roberts, whose pioneering work as a geologist and prospector was instrumental in the development of the Free State Goldfields. Its a town of sunshine with a vigorous, healthy climate and moderate winters. Thousands of flamingoes can be seen from the main road and is a characteristic of the region. |
