Theewaterskloof Golf Club (9)

Theewaterskloof featured.

General Information

The Theewaterskloof Dam is a major storage dam for Cape Town’s water supply and a popular and picturesque spot for weekend picnics and watersports. The nine-hole golf course was completed in 1993 and is situated within a private, secure housing estate called the Theewaterskloof Country Club.

It’s a unique setting – relatively high in the mountains and on the shores of a large dam – and is likely to become one of the sought-after areas of the Overberg. The golf course is attractive and testing despite being reasonably open, and the lakeside setting, fynbos, mountains, vineyards and orchards all give it a lovely rural feeling.

Location

Villiersdorp

Villiersdorp is known as the Pearl of the Overberg. It nestles in a rich valley surrounded by lush farmlands, spectacular mountains and the magnificent Theewaterskloof Dam. A 9 hole golf course is situated next to the dam, while on the water one can enjoy pleasure cruises, fishing and most other water sports.

Villiersdorp also offers tractor tours, camping, B&B; and self-catering facilities, restaurants, and wine tasting. For the more adventurous, there are also wonderful 4×4 routes and hiking trails in the surrounding Blokkop, Aasvoël and Sneeukop Mountains.

The town was established in 1843 by field-cornet Peter de Villiers and when a request was made to the Governor of the Cape for a name to keep the French origin, he called it De Villiers Dorp.

Directions

Take the N2 from the city centre towards Cape Town International Airport and then take the Villiersdorp turn-off. Turns left and continue for approximately 40kms, and then turn right at the sign Theewaterskloof and the golf club will be on the right hand side.
